Unprecedented collaboration with the customer on the formation of an asset informational model

Digitalization and three-dimensional modeling of objects begins with design enterprises, but the main benefit from BIM technologies is concentrated in the hands of the customer, because he is a direct user of the product, and the assed-based stage occupies the largest part of the life cycle of the object. It is at this stage that the greatest benefits from digitalization can be achieved.

In information modeling, the concept of system life cycle includes several stages: design, construction, asset, demolition. Each defines its own tasks to be solved, the necessary input information and the planned results of the work.

Belarusian design companies are already actively implementing BIM as a tool for digitalizing their products. Unfortunately, in the current realities, the life cycle of a BIM model, as a rule, ends at the design stage, and the customer uses it only as a source of information, not replenished with new data during operation.

The state enterprise "Belorusneft-Neftehimproekt" went further and together with the customer of RUE "Belorusneft-Brestoblnefteprodukt" conducted unprecedented joint work on the formation of an asset informational model. This became possible thanks to the customer's desire and close collaboration with the design institute. The knowledge of information modeling technologies of designers and the long–term experience of the asset of the operational services have joined together to implement global tasks - to improve the quality of planning and management decision-making, to bring to the proper level of reliability and safety of operation, to reduce costs.

The BIM model of the refueling station No. 30 in Baranovichi city, Republic of Belarus, developed by the specialists of the "Belorusneft-Neftehimproekt", was handed over to the customer.

For two months, a closely integrated joint work of the designer and the customer was carried out, as a result of which the project BIM model was filled with asset data. Under the guidance of BIM coordinators of the state enterprise "Belorusneft-Neftehimproekt", employees of the operation services of RUE "Belorusneft-Brestoblnefteprodukt" were trained, mastered tools and filled in the BIM model with their data. It should be noted that the employees of the customer company did not have special training, while in a short time they were able to master the tools of working with the BIM model and get all the necessary skills to fill it.

Information management as part of the operational information model was carried out using the Vitro-Park shared data environment. The interaction of specialists of the project enterprise and employees of the customer was carried out in a single environment. At the same time, it does not matter in which city the participants of the process are located – they received the same conditions and access to the common data environment from Minsk and Brest at any time.

The implemented project of closely integrated collaboration of all participants of various life stages of a BIM object changes the approach to work in the construction industry. If earlier the customer and the designer were quite isolated and interacted only at certain stages of working with the project, now they sat down at the same table to discuss a single model. And this increases the quality and value of the product and allows you to use the model as the main source of up-to-date and reliable data and information about the asset for all interested parties, as well as to have at hand a comfortable management tool for maintenance and maintenance of constructed structures, not in theory, but in practice.
