Virtuality in the real world

For the first time in the Republic of Belarus, a comparison of a real object with its digital model was carried out. This was made possible thanks to the mixed reality platform "BRIO MRS".

On October 06, 2022, a meeting of specialists of the State Enterprise "Belorusneft-Neftehimproekt" and RUE "Belorusneft-Brestoblnefteprodukt" took place at the refueling station No.30 in Baranovichi. The project of the specified refueling station was designed using building information modeling technology (BIM technology).

Representatives of the customer – Chief Engineer Kovalchuk Alexander, head of the UCS Zhilich Tatiana and chief power engineer Sidoruk Roman – had a unique opportunity to view their object using the mixed reality tool "BRIO MRS", scanning the surrounding space with the overlay of virtual elements within the real boundaries of the surrounding world.

Thanks to this innovative mixed reality (MR) technology, the project BIM model at the constructed refueling station was integrated into the existing environment and on the screen of a specialized tablet it was possible to see the real details of the object together with digital design ones. It even turned out to look beyond the objects visible to the eye – through walls, floors and ceilings, track the location of equipment, utilities and other elements of the structure in a real prototype and compare it with a BIM project.

It is especially valuable that digital content has a point of contact in the real world and interacts with it without spatial disturbances, allowing you to compare the real object with the BIM model as accurately as possible, without geometric distortions.

The main area of practical application of the platform is BIM construction supervision, which allows monitoring of construction and installation works, the correct installation of equipment and communications, which ultimately makes it possible to reduce construction time and minimize the number of errors at the construction stage. Also, with the help of technology, it is possible to check the quality of the executive information model and set the installation task (build without drawings and bindings).

The common interest of the designer and the customer in the development of modern tools and technologies to simplify joint tasks and close interaction at various stages of the life cycle of the object allow us to open up new prospects for the construction and operation of construction facilities.
